About Us

Our Mission

At the heart of the Developmental Learning Centre is the understanding that every individual is unique, worthwhile and has the right to enjoy learning, and feel empowered to navigate challenges with confidence and resilience throughout all stages of life.

Together as a collaborative team, we are dedicated to creating a brighter future for all by addressing any immaturities in an individual’s developmental foundations that contribute to learning difficulties and compromise overall wellbeing.

Our therapy approach is based on neuroscience to improve learning, mental health, wellness,  as well as increasing resilience,  focus , connection and overall optimal functioning.

Our Story

Rosemary Murphy, founder of the Developmental Learning Centre often caught herself asking “why” and “what?" throughout her career in teaching and remediation of children with learning difficulties.

“Why is this child struggling? “What could be the underlying cause”, and most importantly, "what can be offered that will make the biggest impact in helping".

Through questioning and searching for answers, Rosemary embarked on further studies and began working out of her home with children who were struggling with learning. The demand for her services was so great that she needed more space, which led to the Developmental Learning Centre opening its doors in 2005.

Following years of dedication to helping children with learning and behavioural challenges, Rosemary finally felt it was time to retire, and the rest of her team collectively took over the running of the clinic in 2022, so they could continue to offer the work that Rosemary started with such great dedication and passion!

Our Team

We have a dedicated, experienced and caring team who fulfill a variety of roles, from hands-on therapists to management and administration. The Developmental Learning Centre was established by Learning & Behavioural Difficulties Expert Rosemary Murphy who pioneered Developmental Movement and Integrated Listening Therapy in New Zealand.

I have a lifelong interest in the healthy development and wellbeing of people. I believe that life circumstances can be substantially improved through participation and achievement in all forms of education and that everyone deserves a chance at being the best that they can be. It is exciting to be part of the clinic, working alongside families, helping them to find solutions to learning and behavioural difficulties and supporting them as they navigate the challenges.

Outside of work I love to spend time with my family (esp. my Grandchildren), lift weights, read, garden and take walks on the beach.

I bring experience, in-depth knowledge and dedication to remediation for learning challenges and ongoing support for families.

I have years of experience within the education sector and have an extensive knowledge base around health and learning difficulties. When I am not at work, I  love to spend time on my lifestyle block, in the garden growing my own fruit and vegetables and catching up with my family over picnics and walks in nature.

Practice Manager, Extra Lesson™ Practitioner

Throughout my life, I have always been dedicated to exploring pathways that identify and address the root core of challenges or difficulties that we are often faced with. So, after 15 years working in the early education sector and centre management, and questioning the rise of behavioural difficulties and diagnosis, the developmental learning centre certainly stood out to me.

I currently cover a range of roles within the clinic from administrative duties, to call enquiries, where I can  offer guidance around our assessments and therapies or other avenues outside of our clinic that may be beneficial.

In my spare time, I love walking Papamoa hills, indulging in a good coffee from one of our local cafés in Papamoa, or spending time with my family.

Advanced Cert.iLs.Practitioner and Safe and Sound Protocol Therapist

Hi, I’m a therapist with nine years of experience in helping families navigate their unique journeys. Based in the beautiful Mt Maunganui, where I’ve called home and raised my family for the past 20 years, I’m passionate about supporting individuals and families through their challenges.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me enjoying the local beaches or attempting to master the art of golf. My own three children have all benefited from ILS Listening and DMT therapy, giving me a personal insight into the positive impact of these methods.

Being part of someone’s growth and progress is both an honour and a privilege.  I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a difference and am continually inspired by the resilience and strength of the families I work with.
